Meet the Moms behind Lemon Cake
Welcome to Lemon Cake!
Well, hey there—welcome! We are so glad you’re here. If you’ve found this post, you probably have a little idea about who we are and what we do. But just in case you stumbled across this page and aren’t quite sure, let’s do a quick rundown.
Who Are We?
We’re Amber and Chelsea, two moms living in the Columbus, Ohio area. Amber’s a local through and through, while Chelsea’s been all over but originally grew up in Vermont. We’re wives, entrepreneurs, and, most importantly, moms to some pretty incredible kids.
But here’s the thing—our kids aren’t just any kids. They are medically complex, which means our parenting journey has been filled with challenges we never saw coming. And honestly? That’s exactly how we met and why we decided to start this whole thing in the first place.
In future posts, we’ll share more about our kids, their diagnoses, and their incredible stories. But today, we just want to introduce ourselves, share our hearts, and let you know what we’re all about. Because this? This is more than a business. It’s a mission. A movement.
Why We’re Here
Parenting is hard. Like, really hard. It’s one of the most exhausting, rewarding, and all-consuming things we’ll ever do. Now, throw in medical complexities and disabilities, and it’s a whole new ballgame.
In the disability community, we often say it’s “the club we never wanted to be part of” — but once you’re in it, the support and connection you find are truly a gift. And that’s what we want this space to be for you.
We want you to feel uplifted, encouraged, and supported. We know that raising a child with disabilities can feel isolating, scary, and overwhelming. But you know what? There’s also so much joy to be found in it.
My son (who is seven as I’m writing this) has taught me more about life than I ever could have imagined. He’s shown me how to slow down, take things one step at a time, and find laughter even in the hardest moments. He has shaped me into the person I am today, and without him, I wouldn’t be doing the work I’m so passionate about.
Why We Share
We share our stories because we don’t want other parents to feel alone.
We share because we want the world to see what it’s really like raising medically complex kids.
We share because our children deserve to be seen, included, and valued—just like anyone else.
We share because accessibility, resources, and true inclusion matter.
Our kids deserve to take up space. They were beautifully and intentionally made in God’s image, just as they are.
(I could go on a whole tangent about that—but we’ll save that for another day.)
So… What’s Lemon Cake?
Oh yeah—our business name is Lemon Cake! Because when life hands you lemons (which it definitely will), why make plain old lemonade when you can turn it into something sweet and amazing instead?
Maybe your “lemons” aren’t parenting a child with disabilities. Maybe they’re something else entirely. Either way, we’re here to help turn life’s challenges into something meaningful, joyful, and dare we say… delicious?
